The philosophy of the Science Education Department
is based on both the philosophy of the University as outlined in the academic
brief of July 1985 and philosophy of Education as outlined in the National
Policy on Education respectively.
In particular, the programmes are designed to raise
scientifically knowledgeable, technologically skilled and complete teachers. It
seeks to empower the graduates to be self – reliance and able to use the
acquired skills to effectively teach science in a creative manner in a
technological advantage (development) of and the Nation at large.
Specifically, the objectives of the undergraduate
programmes in the Department of Science Education could be summed as follows:
(a). to produce competent teachers who are oriented
towards entrepreneurship in technology and science education.
(b). to encourage and make students acquire
knowledge and skills in technology and science education discipline.
(c). to familiarize students with the latest
development on methods of instruction, use of technology and local resources
and materials in teaching and learning of science education courses.
(d). to
equip the students with technological innovations in order to exhibit
competence in general classroom and laboratory management.
(e). to produce highly motivated, conscientious and
efficient science teachers for all levels of Nigeria education system.
